English Team Wins first ever Young Shepherds World Championships in New Zealand

 

Rappa is proud to announce that the English team was the overall winner at the first ever Young Shepherds World Championships, which took place in New Zealand this November.

Philip Derryman from East Devon and Alastair Graham from Northumberland were among the 20 young shepherds competing, who had already won regional events at home before converging on Christchurch, New Zealand. 

Rappa Fencing was one of the sponsors of the British team.

Rappa sponsors first Young Shepherds World Championships


Rappa is proud to be one of the sponsors of the UK competitors in the first ever Young Shepherds World Championships taking place in New Zealand this November. Twenty young shepherds, aged 18-25, who have already won regional events at home, are now representing their country at Christchurch, New Zealand.

The eight UK competitors include Philip Derryman from East Devon; Alastair Graham from Rothbury, Northumberland; Llion Wyn Jones from Nebo and Dafydd Roberts from Corwen representing Wales; Thomas Gibson from North Antrim and Jonathan McKelvey representing Northern Ireland; and David Gray and Gregor Ingram from Aberdeenshire representing Scotland.

Competition tasks include erecting a permanent fence, handling an ATV, including catching a rogue ewe and loading her into an attached trailer; identifying sheep breeds and breeding values; drafting and counting sheep, drenching three and determining their ages; identifying a range of sheep farming equipment; matching export figures to various countries; shearing two sheep with the fastest progressing to a final shear off!
