Harry the founder of Rappa Fencing

Rappa's History

In 1965, Harry Ridley, farm manager at Chilbolton Down Farm, was tasked with improving land fertility affordably. His solution was a seven-year rotation system centred on sheep grazing. Managing a 3,000-ewe flock, Harry faced the challenge of setting up and removing temporary electric fences, a labour-intensive task.

In 1978, Harry invented the Ridley Rappa, a machine that automated the process of setting out and wrapping up electric fencing, saving significant labour time. This innovation revolutionised British sheep farming and led to the creation of the Rappa Over the next 40 years, more electric fencing components and mobile sheep handling and weighing equipment was added to the Rappa range.

Today, Rappa continues to provide farmers with cost-effective, portable solutions for grassland and livestock management, supporting regenerative farming practices.
